There are many ways to set up pick zones. One simple example is to have the majority of fast moving SKUs in one zone and the rest in another zone. The conveyor moves a carton or tote to the first pick zone. The carton either stops, is diverted, or continues forward. If there is nothing to pick, the carton continues forward to the next zone, and so on. Zone picking is operations that have high volume, high SKU count and is most effective when line items per order is low.
