CASE STUDY: Postal Tray Checkweigher

postal tray checkweigher

The Problem - Automatic In Line Checkweigh Needed for Postal Trays

A major USPS mail handling service wanted to automatically weight postal service trays for shipment and round robin divert the trays to one of four workstations.

The Solution: High Accuracy Postal Scale

CASI supplied a 921 high accuracy in line conveyor scale with SortMaster bi-directional diverts.

Checkweigh System Overview

Trays are inducted through a strapping machine by and operator.

The license plate barcode on the tray is read by a fixed position barcode scanner and the data sent to the Checkweigh Manager software.

The postal tray is weighed on the 921 in line checkweigher.

Cartons that pass the over under Checkweigh process are conveyed to two SortMaster 100 bi directional diverts and sorted to the four workstations. Exceptions travel off the end of the conveyor and are manually processed.

System Benefits and Efficiencies

The in line checkweigh and sortation system lowers shipping error and automates the material handling of the postal trays. This creates labor savings and increases customer service.
