CASE STUDY: 3PL Shipping Sortation

barcode scanning tunnel

The Problem:

A major Third party Logistics Company needed a shipping sorter with a 5 side barcode scan tunnel. The cartons had UPS, FedEx, USPS and DHL barcodes on all five sides and they needed to be sorted by common carrier.

The Solution:

CASI installed a low cost five side barcode scan tunnel with common carrier sortation system. The system consisted on an Omni-directional barcode scanner from the top, and DS6300 barcode scanners to read the ladder barcodes on the sides of the carton.

EQUIPEMENT LIST:

  1. CASI 1100 Automation Center
  2. SolidSuite Tunnel Manager
  3. SolidComm Red Prairie WMS Interface
  4. SolidRoute Sortation Controls

  6. Datalogic DS6300 Fixed Mount barcode scanners

System Overview

Intralox centering conveyor

As cartons travel down the conveyor, they encounter a two to one merge using Intralox belt. Once the cartons are cingulated, they travel to the barcode scan tunnel.

Intralox divert conveyor

The SolidRoute System is used to sort the cartons to the proper carrier lane and manage the scan tunnel.
