CASE STUDY: Poly Bag Sorter

poly bag sorter

CASI was contracted to implement a bi-directional poly bag sorting system for shipments of pharmaceuticals in bottles.

The Problem - Poly Bag Sorting

sorting poly bags

Manual sorting operations use valuable cycle time and typically cost many times the installed cost of an automatic poly bag sorter.

The Solution - Automatic Poly Bag Sortation System

index and convey poly bags

Cartons enter the system on a table top chain conveyor where they move on to an incline belt conveyor.

incline poly bag conveyor

The bags are transported up the incline belt conveyor to the sortation height.

automatically gap poly bags

As the bags enter the system they are gapped by a TransMaster 8000 low profile gapping belt.

scan and verify poly bag ID

After the bags are gapped, a vision based scanner reads the barcode identifying the bag for sortation.

sortation of poly bags

The bags are tracked down to the correct sortation lane and diverted in to a tote.

sort to tote

Once the tote is full, the tote is pushed onto a take away TransMaster 9000 MDR conveyor for shipment.

Benefits from the new efficiencies

Labor savings, accuracy, and tracking are now much more efficient due to automating the poly bag line. Contact CASI to learn more about savings associated with sortation and other automation systems.
