CASE STUDY: Order Audit Checkweigh Using In Line Scale

The Problem: Picking Errors require 100% QC
A major third party logistics (3PL) company contracted with CASI to supply an automatic QC system using a scan scale system. The in motion weighing system needed to interface to the customer’s warehouse management system and read a license plate barcode to identify the carton. Cartons outside the over/ under checkweigh are diverted to a manual QC line.
The Solution: In Motion Scale for QC by Weight
CASI provided a system consisting of a 951 In Line Scale, Fixed position barcode scanner, SortMaster 130 HD Divert. Two software modules from SolidSuite were also provided. SolidComm was used to interface to the customer’s WMS and SolidCheck for the checkweigh application.
Order Audit System Overview

The system begins with a conventional break meter belt controller by the CASI 1100 A system controller to properly space the cartons.

Once the cartons are spaced, a Datalogic DS6300 fixed position barcode scanner reads the license plate barcode on the side of the carton. This data is used to perform a lookup in the customer’s WMS using SolidComm.

Once the order info is local to the controller, the expected weight for the carton is calculated and an upper and lower control limit determined by SolidCheck

Cartons that pass the over under checkweigh process are allowed to convey to the sortation system and be shipped.

Items that fail are diverted to QC.

The SortMaster 130 HD is able to cartons to 75 LB.
Benefits from the new efficiencies
The in line checkweigh system will enable the 3PL to reduce picking errors and labor costs associated with manual quality checks on out bound shipments.
