CASE STUDY: Label Verification System
The Problem
Xpedx Packaging was asked by one of their large customers to develop a custom Label Verification system that would accomplish the following:
- Verify the label barcode label is readable and meets ANSI standards
- Verify the barcode label is straight
- Confirm the label is for the product currently being produced
The Solution
CASI was contracted to develop the Custom Label Verification using the standard SolidSuite label verification module SolidVerify. This software was used in conjunction with a Datalogic Matrix 2000 Imaging System to solve the problem.
System Overview
The label confirmation system was a batch run system and requires the operator to select the product being run from a list. This data can either be selected from a list or a barcode scanned from the work order.
As the product travels down the conveyor in motion, the Matrix 2000 reads the barcode and transmits the barcode data, label angle and readability index to the SolidVerify software. This software determines if the product label meets specifications or not.
If the criteria fails, the conveyor is stopped and the product manually removed and re-worked.
Benefits from the new efficiencies
The new Label verification and automatic Quality Control system from CASI prevents customer charge backs for unreadable labels, crooked or wrong labels. Other benefits include labor savings from rework and greater customer satisfaction.
