CASE STUDY: Oversize Checkweigh and Package Dimensioner

The Problem: Need Automated Dimensional Weigh System for Common Carrier Compliance

CASI was contracted by a major multicarrier shipping system supplier to provide a heavy duty conveyor scale and large carton dimensioner for UPS and FedEx dimensional weigh requirements. In order to process all the cartons on the in line checkweigh cuber system, the system had to be 36 inches wide by 72 inches long.

The Solution: Custom Size Checkweigh Cuber

CASI proposed a "super size" checkweigh cuber with a multi-side barcode scanner array to read pick labels from the top or sides.

System Overview

As cartons travel down the conveyor, they stage in zero pressure accumulation before the scale. The CASI 1100 Checkweigh Controller interlinks with the custom electrical controls to meter the cartons one by one across the scale. Once the cartons enter the in motion scale, the barcodes are read from the top or sides and the barcode data, weight and cube is transmitted to the multicarrier shipping system for proper common carrier compliance.

Benefits from the new efficiencies

The system allowed the end user to reduce labor costs associated with manifesting cartons and ensure compliance with common carrier dimensional weight requirements.
