CASE STUDY: Automatic Check Weigh of Fastener Kits

The Problem
A major distributor of fasteners was unable to provide kits of nuts and bolts for the end-users manufacturing line that were complete. Even 100% manual inspection of the kitting operation did not produce the desired result and satisfy the end customer with accurate kits.
The Solution
An 851 small part checkweigher was installed to automatically weigh each kit in line after it was bagged by the AutoBag Kit-Veyor kitting machine.
System Overview
Kits are bagged in batch runs. As part of the setup process, the operator selects the product to be check weighed from a menu on the in motion scale setup screen.

After the fasteners are kitted and bagged, they drop onto a ZoneMaster low profile in-feed conveyor belt. This process uses a cleated belt conveyor.

The kits are automatically over/ under check weighed at over 40 bags per minute to a high accuracy of 5 grams. If the kits are over weight or under weight, they are diverted to individual bins using a SortMaster 110 reject device.
System Benefits and Efficiencies
Benefits of installing the automatic process control checkweigh system include accurate kits being packaged, greatly reduced customer service calls and optimized process control.
