CASE STUDY: Bottom UPC Labeling System

The Problem

Xpedx had a major customer that wanted to reduce the labor they had in applying UPC labels to air filters and ensure that the UPC barcode labels placed on the item were readable.

The Solution

CASI Installed a bottom labeling system with a simple conveyor control PLC. The decorative labeler is a simple tamp design mounted on a customized bottom labeling T-stand. The specialized roller conveyor allows the bottom apply tamp assembly to travel through the rollers and apply the label to the bottom of the carton.

System Overview

As the air filters exited the cartoning system, they travel up an incline conveyor to bring them to a height where the UPC label can be applied. Once the label is applied, label placement is confirmed by a label confirmation barcode scanner.

System Benefits and Efficiencies

The benefits of the new system are that labor is reduced and UPC labels are confirmed to be readable and of the correct type for the product automatically.
