Datalogic DS6400

The DS6400 is based on the same concept of the DS6300 and DS6500: a complete and modular solution in terms of reading performance, connectivity, ease of use and maintenance.

The modularity and flexibility of the DS6400 is based on an innovative mechanical design with the scanner separated in two parts: the reading head and decoder base. As a result, it is possible to always install the scanner in the ideal position, by simply rotating the Head / Base position (“Step-A-Head”).

The DS6400 has a built-in linear motor providing a dynamic focus system called FLASH™, fully controlled via SW, which covers an impressive reading range of over 2 meters. FLASH™ is capable of moving the focus position from the minimum to the maximum position, in less than 10 msec. FLASH™ complements ASTRA™ technology.

New Step-a-Head™ feature

The Step-a-Head™ is an innovative feature that makes the DS6400 unique in the Auto ID market. The Step-a-Head™ makes it possible to rotate the reader head and the decoder base independently from each other. As a result of Step-a-Head™, the DS6400 can always be installed in the ideal position. It is possible to change the orientation of the connector panel while the laser window remains in the desired position: this minimizes the need for space and makes the installation phase easier.

 

 

Built in Connectivity

One of the key points of the new DS6400 is connectivity. A high speed LonWorks bus makes it possible to inter-connect a cluster of scanners without creating any bottlenecks in the communications with the host. The DS6400 offers connectivity to the most popular industrial buses like Ethernet, Profibus and DeviceNet without any converter or adapter needed. The integration of Ethernet with TCP-IP protocol in the decoder base expands the networking and remote diagnostic capabilities of the scanner. The possibility of sending diagnostic or statistical messages, even through the Web, provides a great advantage for service and maintenance and reduces the plant down-time costs.

Display & Keypad

The DS6400 has a practical display with keypad that both increase the scanner easiness of use by showing bar code data read (local echo), statistics data and running the auto learning function (no PC is needed).

Auto Learning Function

The DS6400 features a new auto learning function: the most suitable configuration is automatically achieved by simply positioning a bar code label in front of the scanner. As a result of the auto learning function, the DS6400A can be easily adjusted on the application without the need of a deep knowledge of barcode technology.

It is the only scanner in its category that features ambient light immunity. This unique feature makes the DS6400 suitable for outdoor applications and makes installation simple, not requiringany screening of the direct light sources around the reading stations.

ACR Technology

The DS6400 is available with a real time linear decoder and an (Advanced Code Reconstruction) 2nd generation decoder. ACR technology is based on a powerful DSP able to carry out real time bar code image reconstruction and decoding, allowing the reading of non-oriented labels placed in various positions on objects. This code reconstruction capability also dramatically enhances the readability of poorly printed or damaged codes.

The linear decoder version is based on a powerful RISC processor and features reliable Datalogic pre-processor technology capable of providing exceptional price/performance solutions for the fastest and most sophisticated applications.

Genius Setup Software

With the DS6400, Datalogic introduces the Genius™ scanner configuration tool. This new and innovative configuration program will extend to all unattended readers in the future and will constitute a single standardized configuration platform for all Datalogic products. Genius™ utilizes a wizard approach, which guarantees immediate use even for first time users and minimizes learning time. The program is multi-language based to make it ever easier to use. Genius™ eliminates risk of errors in the configuration. There is no need for multiple configuration files or templates and all the information needed is stored in the reader.

Ambient Light Immunity

High frequency modulation of the emitted laser light makes the signal received from the barcode independent from the level of the ambient light.
